Hair loss can be caused by a number of factors such
as age, genetics, lifestyle, and certain medical conditions.
While most people assume that hair loss is an irreversible condition,
there are in fact a number of ways on how to regrow hair, some of which
only involves the use of all natural products. Below are simple tips on
how to grow back hair, including which products or ingredients are best
to use as remedy as well as preventive.
Castor Oil and Biotin Therapy
A considerable percentage of hair loss cases are attributed to stress, anxiety, and Vitamin B7 deficiency. In order to address this problem, using castor oil (applied directly on the scalp) and taking Biotin
is necessary. This therapy is very simple to follow as long as you have
all the ingredients you need. For starters, castor oil needs to be
mixed with another type of oil, preferably one that is much looser or
thinner(since castor is much too viscous) like coconut, extra virgin
olive, or vegetable oil. Once the oil is ready, all you need to do is
apply onto the scalp and leave on for about 30 to 45 minutes before
rinsing with natural-based shampoo.
Taking Biotin must be done in
concurrence with the castor oil regimen in order to get excellent
results within 3-6 months. Be sure to take no more than 5,000 mcg
(micrograms) daily. Mega dosing may come with very serious side effects
and can hamper hair regrowth. The rate of improvement may vary depending
on how severe the hair loss is and other relevant factors, i.e.
possible excessive usage of harmful chemicals found in harsh shampoos,
Vitamin E Regimen
Apart from vitamin B7, Vitamin E
is another essential nutrient that can help regrow hair and prevent
further hair loss in both men and women. Taking vitamin E orally or
applying it directly onto the scalp helps stimulate proper blood
circulation, when then allows for faster regrowth of hair follicles.
Vitamin E supplements are very easy to come by since they are available
in all drugstores/pharmacies. Vitamin E also contributes to effective
hair thickening, which is important for people with hair fall issues.
Note: If you cannot refrain from using shampoo and conditioner, at
least be sure to get ones that are infused with Vitamin E. This should
help control hair fall and boost the effects of the daily regimen.
FDA Approved Medications
For some people, going the
pharmaceutical route is always the first choice. There is an
unassailable logic behind this choice since big pharma companies take
years to develop medications before they get approval from the Food and
Drugs Administration. There are 3 different FDA sanctioned drugs for
hair loss that have shown good results in a large number of hair loss
sufferers in North America as well as many parts of Europe.
This oral medication is formulated specifically to treat BPH or Benign
Prostatic Hyperplasia. However, it is also an off label treatment for
male pattern baldness. The active ingredients in this medication
inhibits the production of DHT or dihydrotestosterone, which is an
enzyme that is prevalent in patients with BPH and male pattern baldness.
Limiting the production of this particular enzyme results to curing
symptoms of both conditions. It also helps regrow hair follicles,
thereby reversing the baldness.
Just like Dusteride, this drug is also an off label for male pattern
baldness and is largely prescribed to patients suffering from BPH. It
does provide excellent results for men and women suffering from light to
moderate hair loss. If you are otherwise in good health (no other
serious underlying medical condition), this is a good choice for a hair
loss treatment.Minoxidil –
Unlike Dutasteride and Finasteride, this
drug is a topical solution and it has been formulated specifically to
treat male pattern baldness. This medication is not to be confused with
Oral Minoxidil, which is used for treating High Blood Pressure. Be sure
to indicate that you want the topical solution (available in foam
formulation) when buying this solution. While this medication is highly
effective, it should be noted that most of the new hair that grows back
will likely fall off again a few months after you stop taking it.
Aloe Vera Mask with Coconut Milk or Oil
For those who are
adamant on avoiding pharmaceutical solutions, the combination of Aloe
Vera extract and coconut milk/oil is a great choice for dealing with
hair loss. The formula is very simple. You only need freshly extracted
aloe vera (the slimy substance inside the stalk) and about 25 ml of
fresh coconut milk or coconut oil.
can get both ingredients from drugstores but fresh ones are still the
best. Just mix the two ingredients to make a pasty solution and apply it
directly onto the hair and scalp. Rub it gently to ensure proper
absorption or you can use cellophane to wrap your hair and let the
solution soak for at least 1 hour. Be sure to rinse thoroughly with mild
shampoo and lukewarm water.
Regrowing hair is not an exact
science since there is no single treatment that has been proven to work
on everyone. However, knowing that there are a number of hair loss
solutions to choose from should tell you that there is always hope for
better (and thicker) looking hair.
