Manchester United are
reportedly planning a combined bid of £50.7 million to secure the
signatures of AS Roma midfield pair Miralem Pjanic and Radja Nainggolan
The Red Devils, who have finally been guaranteed a spot in next
season's Champions League, are reportedly keen to strengthen their squad
this summer, with manager Louis van Gaal already identifying positions
that need to be reinforced ahead of the new 2015/16 campaign.
Although getting a new striker and a right-back is believed to be van
Gaal number one priority this summer, he is also reportedly looking for
a new midfielder to add some steel to his current squad.
According to the Metro, United are reportedly looking to make double swoop for AS Roma's Pjanic and Nainggolan this summer.
Pjanic has been on United's radar for quite some time now, with the
Red Devils being heavily linked with a move for the Bosnian midfielder
However, the move failed to materialize, as the midfielder ended up signing a new contract (until 2018) in May 2014.
Liverpool were then believed to be leading the race to sign
Pjanic, with the 25-year-old being identified as a potential long-term
replacement for their captain Steven Gerrard, who is set to leave
Anfield to join MLS side LA Galaxy this summer.
However, United have reportedly renewed their interest in Pjanic, and
it is now believed they are interested in Bosnian's teammate Nainggolan
Pjanic has managed to establish himself as one of the best
midfielders in Italy since completing a €11 million switch from Lyon to
Roma in the summer of 2011, while Nainggolan has earned the reputation
of being an excellent tough-tackling midfielder.
Although AS Roma are unlikely to be interested in parting with both
their midfielders this summer, United are reportedly confident that a
£50.7million bid will be enough to tempt the Serie A side.
This is because Roma need to offload few players and reduce the size
of their squad from 25 to 22 players for the 2015/16 campaign, after
being charged by UEFA for failing to comply with its Financial Fair Play
regulations this season.
